This variety was mentioned as early as in 1847 at the belgian nursery Van Houtte. The russian tsar who was in power between 1825-1855 is the origin of the name.
Double flowering. Named after Fanny, born 1887, in Borgå, Finland. It's known history goes back to the 1940s. It got the title geranium of the year in 2023 in Finland.
Bird's egg geranium. Hybridized by Jay Kapac from the USA in 1901. The category name "bird's egg geraniums" comes from it's flowers pattern that reminds of bird's eggs.
